Experience luxury living in Mayfair Wednesday, 6th September 2023

Bordering the lush expanses of Hyde Park and Green Park is one of London’s most luxurious neighbourhoods – Mayfair. With wide streets flanked by elegant Georgian townhouses, wonderful art galleries, designer shops, chic bars and haute cuisine, it is the ideal place to enjoy the very finest the capital has to offer. Our luxury Gilbert Street serviced apartments are right in the heart of this magnificent area, so let us take you on a tour of the neighbourhood…

World-class shopping

Mayfair is one of the world's best luxury shopping destinations. Mount Street is the home of high-end: here you’ll find designers such as Jenny Packham, Balmain, Oscar de la Renta, Roksanda, Lanvin, Carolina Herrera and more. The pedestrianised South Molton Street (just off Oxford Street) is lined with clothes boutiques and jewellery stores such as Monica Vinader, Claudie Pierlot, ME+EM and Space NK. For bespoke men’s tailoring there’s nowhere quite like Savile Row, lined as it is with some of the best couturiers in the world.

A Mayfair staple since 1818, luxe department store Burlington Arcade is home to 40+ boutiques selling high-end jewellery, perfume, cosmetics, leather goods and fashion. Ladurée, inventor of the macaron, is also found here. Within its gilded walls you can browse a selection of delicious delicacies and indulge in an exclusive Moet & Chandon cream tea.

Art and culture

Admire fine and contemporary art at Mayfair’s many galleries. Sadie Coles, a pioneer of the Young British Artists movement, still champions emerging artists today. You can also view contemporary art at the Gagosian’s two Mayfair outposts on Davies Street and Grosvenor Hill. Britain’s oldest art school, the Royal Academy of Arts, counted Constable and Turner among its students and hosts regular shows including its famous Summer Exhibition, running since 1768. For photography, Hamiltons Gallery is one of the capital’s best and regularly shows the work of history’s most important photographers as well as contemporary practitioners.

Fine dining

There is an expansive gastronomic scene to explore with some of London’s most exciting and innovative restaurants found in Mayfair – many of which are just a few minutes’ walk from our serviced apartments.

Apricity, for example, champions a sustainable, zero-waste approach to cooking using seasonal British produce, while vegans should check out all-day eatery Plants by Deliciously Ella. Asian-inspired small plates are on offer at Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsay, and at The Ivy Asia maximalism reigns supreme; the sumptuous surroundings, including a green stone floor, antiques and cherry blossoms, are all part of the fine dining experience. Another restaurant that delivers a feast for both eyes and stomach is Bacchanalia, serving Mediterranean cuisine in showstopping interiors which include Damien Hirst statues, hand-painted ceiling murals and Greco-Roman artworks. The curated menu of seasonal dishes is theatrically presented and there is also a weekly programme of live music. And for seafood, Scott’s Mayfair has been serving market-fresh dishes since 1851 – and even has an elegant oyster and champagne bar to tantalise your tastebuds.

Luxe local businesses

Mayfair has a wonderful community of small businesses offering premium services, including boutique grocers, fine wine shops, beauty bars and laundry services – perfect if you are staying for a while.

Your luxury serviced apartment comes equipped with a washer/dryer, but we know some garments need specialist care. Family-run Buckingham Dry Cleaners has provided top-class laundry services to Mayfair residents since 1984, and our team is happy to help you organise any dry cleaning you might require during your stay.

Heading to an event? Duck & Dry is a blow dry bar, hair and nail salon, and cocktail bar in one. From classic up-dos to signature blow dries and luxe manicures, it’s the perfect pre-event pit stop for some premium pampering.

While the restaurant scene is undeniably varied and expansive, there are plenty of grocers and delis where you can purchase gourmet ingredients and artisanal dishes to enjoy in the open-plan dining area of your apartment. Pasticceria Marchesi is the Mayfair branch of the renowned family-run Milanese bakery, where you can pick up pastries, preserves and chocolate. At HR Higgins you can explore the large selection of coffee and loose tea, and even sample their famous pour-over coffees in the basement lounge. For dinner ingredients, head to organic butcher and fishmonger Eversfield Organic Butchery, located in the Selfridges Food Hall, which sources its produce from a family farm in Devon.

Looking for some fine wines to accompany your meal? There are three brilliant wine shops within five minutes’ walk of our apartments. Comptoir Café & Wine has some 500 wines available to sample in the restaurant, as well as a basement shop where you can browse more than 2,000 bottles. On a quaint cobbled street in a converted carriage workshop, you’ll find Brooks Mews Wine House; pick out a few fine vintages before heading up to the mezzanine level to sample a glass alongside some artisanal cheese and charcuterie. And on Davies Street, award-winning Hedonism Wines offers a selection of around 6,500 wines as well as 3,000 fine whiskies and spirits.

Night life

The vibrant theatrical delights of London’s West End are easily reached from our Mayfair apartments via the Elizabeth Line from Bond Street, where you can watch world-class musicals, plays, cabaret, comedy and more. If you’re looking for a quintessentially British pub in which to while away the evening, there are plenty to choose from: you’ll be spoiled for choice at The Market Tavern’s large bar, while The Punchbowl’s Grade II listed Georgian building offers gorgeous, homely surrounds. And The Running Horse, just a couple of minutes from our apartments, is Mayfair’s oldest pub, having been founded in 1738. It celebrates all things British – from the quirky décor to the seasonal menu of food and drink. For cocktails, head to elegantly eccentric bar Mr Fogg’s Apothecary on Brook Street or visit Manetta’s Bar, a luxurious 1930s-style locale offering inventive twists on your favourite drinks.
