Location: 72-74 Margravine Gardens, London W6 8RJ
Margravine Gardens is a pleasant residential street in the village-like neighbourhood of Barons Court; yet with the underground station just 3 minutes’ walk away, the attractions of West London can all be easily reached. Take the tube to nearby South Kensington where you can enjoy art at the V&A Museum, fossils at the National History Museum and live music at the Royal Albert Hall. With Hammersmith in easy walking distance of our Barons Court apartments, you are not far from the world-famous Apollo live entertainment venue or the Lyric Theatre – both great places to spend your evening. Fans of theatre will be pleased that London’s iconic West End can also be easily reached in less than half an hour via public transport. On sunny days, head 10 minutes down to the riverfront to admire the views or take a leisurely stroll down the Thames Path.
Kensington High Street is just a short tube ride away, where you can browse high street staples, big-brand names and, down the tucked-away road of Kensington Church Street, a number of antiques shops. While here, you should make a stop at the eccentric, quintessentially British pub, the Churchill Arms; bedecked in florals and memorabilia, it’s the sort of place that will put a smile on your face! It doesn’t take long to get to some of London’s other renowned shopping destinations from our Barons Court apartments with the excellent transport links available: famous luxury department store Harrods is reached within 19 minutes; Notting Hill’s quirky boutiques are 25 minutes away; iconic Portobello Road Market is 30 minutes away; and the expansive Westfield London shopping centre can be reached in around 24 minutes.
By Barons Court station, Metro Café is a popular coffee shop for great quality drinks and sandwiches. Vegetarians will love the plant-based menu on offer at The Gate (13 minute walk), widely recognised as one of London’s best vegetarian restaurants. There’s also a charming secret garden for al fresco dining. Ottoman Turkish (10 minute walk) offers a range of mezzes and Mediterranean classics while family-run Café Barca (5 minute walk) is a no-frills eatery serving breakfast, sandwiches and authentic Portuguese dishes. Maurizio Barca (12 minute walk) offers classic Italian dishes in homely surroundings. For a special meal, The River Café (12 minute walk) is a Hammersmith staple, with innovative seasonal Italian cuisine and fine wines served in an airy riverside location.
The Curtain’s Up pub is about 8 minutes’ walk from our apartments; this Barons Court gem serves British pub classics and a wide selection of drinks, and in the basement you’ll find the Barons Court Theatre. This intimate venue has been staging performances for the West Kensington community since 1991, with an eclectic programme celebrating emerging and early-career artists. Other theatres easily reached from our apartments include the Finborough Theatre in Earl’s Court and the Lyric in Hammersmith. In nearby Earl’s Court, head to Evans & Peel Detective Agency for an evening drink with a twist: this secret speakeasy-style bar offers a mix of mystery, old school glamour and a great environment. And in Kensington, Ricco Lounge is a sophisticated cocktail bar with live music, jazz ensembles, themed evenings, DJ sets, cabaret performances and art deco inspired interiors – you’re practically guaranteed a unique night out!
