Things to do around Basingstoke Serviced Apartments - Skyline Plaza

Introduction

Basingstoke’s Leisure Park is in easy reach of our centrally-located serviced apartments. There you’ll find ten-pin bowling, indoor skydiving, ice-skating, swimming and the Milestones Museum, with a detailed living history street scene recalling Basingstoke in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. A short drive north of town, you’ll find The Vyne, once a Tudor palace with important connections to Henry VIII and Jane Austen. Eastrop Park, a ten-minute walk from our apartments, offers fun for all the family with a boating lake, tree trail, children’s play area and a paddling pool. It’s been recognised with a Green Flag Award, which rewards the best green spaces in the country. Further afield, the North Wessex Downs offer beautiful walks through chalk downland – you can even amble on Watership Down, a hill which inspired the Richard Adams novel. And in surrounding Hampshire you’ll find the backdrop to Downton Abbey at Highclere Castle, the Bombay Sapphire distillery, and the birthplace of Jane Austen.

Shopping

Boasting a diverse selection of high street stores, a large retail centre and some traditional street markets, Basingstoke is a popular shopping destination. Our serviced apartments are in easy reach of the Malls and Festival Place shopping centre, which offers over 200 high street shops, a multiplex cinema and a variety of restaurants. Festival Place also includes independent stores such as All Our Own Crafts, which stocks a range of products handmade by local artisans.

Food & Drink

Festival Street Kitchen is an independent family business specialising in homecooked food made with local produce; the eco-conscious company uses compostable packaging and cutlery. Delicious food, as well as locally-made produce and crafts, is available at Willows, an independent coffee house owned by a Basingstoke resident of 50 years. For a lovely pub lunch, a 12-minute drive will get you to the cosy nooks and oak beams at dog-friendly country pub, The Holly Blue and in the town centre, the Bounty Inn offers pub staples in a 19th-century building, with a quirky interior and eccentric décor. When it comes to restaurants, there’s plenty of cuisines on offer. The Olive House is a family-run eatery with exposed-wood beams dishing up Turkish cuisine, seafood and pasta. Colourful bamboo-print wallpaper, wooden tables and potted palms greet you at The Lime Leaf, with a menu of traditional Thai dishes on offer. Miller and Carter, awarded ‘The Masters of Steak’ from the prestigious Craft Guild of Chefs, is a perfect spot for an indulgent meal for a special occasion (and they have vegetarian options too!).

Night Life

Enjoy a performance at the Grade II-listed Haymarket Theatre or a concert at The Anvil, which is renowned as one of the top five concert halls in the country. With such a varied programme of music, comedy, plays and dance on offer, you'll find something for all tastes. At Gaberdine Bar, enjoy a drink in cosy surroundings as well as regular events such as wine and vegan cheese tasting evenings and live music.
