Creative and endlessly cool, Camden is one of the capital’s most vibrant neighbourhoods and the place to go for counter culture. Treasure seekers will love exploring the myriad stalls and boutiques down by Camden Lock; music fans flock to legendary venues such as the Jazz Café , KOKO and the Roundhouse; and families can enjoy the beautiful attractions of ZSL London Zoo and The Regent’s Park. With Camden Town tube just a 7-minute walk away, the Northern Line opens up the rest of the capital for you: Leicester Square, Kings Cross, London Bridge and more are just a few stops away. The Regent’s Canal Towpath is found a few moments from our apartments, which you can follow towards the bustling markets or take a waterbus (a traditional narrowboat) from Camden Market’s West Yard towards tranquil Little Venice. For a picturesque stroll, hop on the tube to Chalk Farm and take a wander around Primrose Hill – while there, check out the picture-perfect pastel townhouses clustered around Chalcot Square and keep an eye out for the blue plaque commemorating the former home of literary greats Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes.
Camden’s famous market is actually made up of several locations which span over a thousand unique stalls and shops: Camden Lock, Stables Market, Hawley Wharf, and Buck Street Village. The iconic Lock was where it all began in 1974 as a few small tables inside a builders yard; today you’ll find a sprawling mass of stalls selling crafts, books, jewellery and street food, as well as barges and bars. Stables Market is an eclectic maze of cobbled yards with permanent shops and stalls selling household items, antiques, alternative clothing and food, and a lovely umbrella ceiling that makes for a great photo. Hawley Wharf is home to independent retailers as well as over 30 global street food options housed in Waterside Halls: check out Nadia Nasro for ethical handmade jewellery and Sknfed for natural skincare products. Over in Buck Street Village, you’ll find Camden's eco-conscious epicentre, with plenty of plant-based food options and ethical fashion traders: Min’s Retro and Vintage Clothing is great for pre-loved items, while Cushion Talk offers unique homeware items.
The markets are a great place to try different cuisines, but there are also plenty of excellent food and drink options a short walk from our apartments. For delicious coffee in a cosy atmosphere, head to Living Room Club – it also hosts a gallery and events too, making it a real community space. Hidden Coffee is another great place for specialty brews and pastries. Pizzeria Di Camden is a popular spot offering traditional stone-baked pizzas, while Casa Tua Camden offers a more expansive all-day Italian menu in a snug store. Roger’s Kitchen serves mouthwatering authentic Caribbean cuisine, presented with contemporary flair, while over at the no-frills Castle’s Pie & Mash Shop you can try out this London classic dish, beloved by locals. Fancy dessert? Head to Camden Lock to try the innovative ice cream (made with liquid nitrogen!) on offer at the flagship Chin Chin Labs.
Camden is home to some of the most iconic live performance venues in London - immerse yourself in music history while enjoying the talents of well-known and emerging artists. Intimate venue Jazz Café (8 minute walk) has live shows every night until 10:30pm, with a club night on Fridays and Saturdays taking place afterwards until the early hours. KOKO’s entertainment history goes back to the 1900s and its stage has hosted music legends such as The Clash, the Jam, Prince, Blur and The Prodigy – and it’s only a 13-minute walk from our apartments. Or hop on the Northern Line to Chalk Farm to visit the iconic Roundhouse for a concert. If you prefer theatre, Etcetera is an award-winning fringe venue showcasing up-and-coming talent in drama and comedy, found above The Oxford Arms (9 minute walk). And of course, Camden is a hive of cool bars and pubs where you can enjoy an evening drink. The World’s End (6 minute walk) is a North London landmark and there’s been a pub on site since 1690. You’ll also find the rock music venue Underworld housed underneath.
