Located between Bloomsbury, Marylebone and Soho, Fitzrovia benefits from various attractions in and around the area. Having once been home to literary greats such as Virginia Woolf and Arthur Rimbaud, the area has a bohemian charm all of its own, evident in the bustling streets, shops and squares. If you like to visit museums, there are plenty of quirky collections in walking distance: the Grant Museum of Zoology houses fascinating taxidermy and fossils, including extinct species; The Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology displays over 80,000 objects of Egyptian and Sudanese heritage; and exhibitions exploring science, medicine and health abound at the Wellcome Collection. Fans of musical theatre will love the area’s proximity to the Grade II listed Dominion Theatre, where there is a rotating programme of family-friendly shows to enjoy. And for green spaces, look no further than The Regent’s Park, just 12 minutes’ walk away: meander through Queen Mary’s Rose Gardens, visit the Boating Lake or enjoy a show at the open-air theatre.
Europe’s busiest shopping destination, Oxford Street, is less than 10 minutes’ walk from our Fitzrovia apartments, where you can browse high street and designer stores selling fashion, homeware, jewellery and gifts. There are also a range of department stores nearby, including Liberty London (housed in a Tudor-revival building), Selfridges and House of Fraser, which sell everything from luxury fashion items to useful and intelligent homeware. Marylebone High Street (13 minutes’ walk) is a great area for stylish and eclectic stores – treasure seekers can browse everything from luxury home fragrance at Diptyque and Baobab Collection, to natural skincare at fresh and Aesop, and a whole host of independent fashion boutiques. Nearby Soho has some of the best boutiques, too, situated on Carnaby Street, Berwick Street and Kingly Court. While in the area, adults and children alike will enjoy the huge collection of graphic novels, comics, manga and figurines at popular basement bookstore, Gosh! Comics.
There are plenty of cafés, gastro pubs and restaurants within a few minutes’ walk. For sustainable, specialty coffee, local gems to check out are Harris + Hoole, Kafi or Attendant Coffee Roasters. The Riding House Café is ideal for an appetizing breakfast or an informal business meeting. If you want something different, book a visit to Java Whiskers – here you can enjoy a coffee and pastry while hanging out with the café’s resident cats! Fancy a pub lunch? Head to Lore of the Land where you’ll find seasonal dishes and excellent pints. Dinner options are wonderfully varied: try Hawaiian seafood dishes at Maui Poke; home-style Italian at Conchiglia; or a taste of Latin America at Brazilian Gourmet. For something special, enjoy a Michelin-star experience at Hakkasan Hanway, serving mouth-watering Cantonese cuisine in an atmosphere of luxury and lavishness; or check out 28°-50° Oxford Circus for delicious European food in chic surrounds, and a curated wine list to pair.
Cocktail fans rejoice, because there are a number of bars in close walking distance where you can sample alcoholic and mocktail beverages in unique surroundings. In the heart of Fitzrovia, PINCH combines stylish terrazzo-tiled interiors with Ukrainian liquor, infused in-house based on traditional family recipes, for cocktails with a twist. The Lucky Pig is an intimate, late-night venue where you can enjoy delicious drinks, live music and DJ nights – just 6 minutes’ walk from our serviced apartments. And Bandra Bhai is delectable for both your eyes and palate – the interiors are modelled on a 70s Indian smuggling den while the cocktails, live music and finger foods make for a great evening out. If you prefer your evening drink caffeinated, head to much-lauded Bar Italia in nearby Soho, where you’ll find a cool crowd, delectable menu and a great social scene. Since 1949, Bar Italia has been run by three generations of the Polledri family so take a moment to enjoy the history seeped into the building as you sip your perfectly-crafted coffee.
