Located in the centre of Hemel Hempstead, Hamilton Apartments is just 25 minutes by train from London, but enjoys the peace and tranquility of a historic, local town.
Hemel Hempstead is a town of two halves. The core of the New Town lies in the Marlowes area, while to the north is the picturesque Old Town, dating back to Henry VIII. The High Street – “the prettiest street in Hertfordshire” – boasts little passageways, timber-framed houses and cultural attractions such as the Old Town Hall (now a theatre). You’ll find fun for all the family in and around town, including sprawling Gadebridge Park, indoor ski/skateboarding at The Snow Centre, and Harry Potter Studios just 15-minutes’ drive away. You can also explore historical sites such as Frogmore Paper Mill and the Gorhambury Estate, or take a short drive into the heart of the Chiltern Hills for hiking and biking trails.
You’ll find a bustling shopping hub full of big brands in Marlowes. Next to the River Gade is the Riverside Shopping Centre, a large, open-air mall offering a street-like shopping area with a department store and fashion shops. There's also the Marlowes Shopping Centre nearby, housing high street brands as well as a number of independent retailers. For smaller boutiques, gift shops and independent stories set amidst historical buildings, head to the High Street in the Old Town.
If you’re looking for a spot of lunch after shopping in the New Town, local gem Marlowes Café and Restaurant offers a warm welcome, a varied menu and generous portions. Or you could try authentic, traditional Japanese with a fine dining twist at Wakusei. And if you'd like something sweet, pop into The Italian Gelato and Dessert Company. Up in the historic heart of Hemel Hempstead, head to Old Town Coffee and Cake for specialty coffees, teas and delicious bakes made in-house. Fans of afternoon tea will love The Tea Tree, although you should definitely book ahead. For good old pub grub on the High Street, check out the Olde Kings Arms, a sixteenth-century coaching inn – apparently Henry VIII was once a patron!
On the High Street, Old Tom's Bar Bistro is a popular spot for meeting with friends or enjoying one of the carefully crafted cocktails solo, in a relaxed yet modern setting. The mocktails are just as delicious! For pubs you'll be spoiled for choice, with many charming establishments scattered across Hemel Hempstead. There's the aforementioned historic Olde King's Arms and the Old Bell on the High Street, and closer to the New Town the Monks Inn offers great drinks and regular events such as comedy nights and quizzes. Further afield you'll find The Steam Coach, a quaint and cosy spot near Heath Park.
