Holborn is brimming with history for the curious to explore; it seems you can’t go a few yards without seeing a centuries-old pub, the majestic Royal Courts of Justice are a sight to behold (after all, Holborn is the heart of London’s legal profession) and Sir John Soane's Museum, a six-minute walk from our apartments (and free to visit) houses an incredible collection of antiquities, furniture, sculptures, architectural drawings, and paintings including work by Hogarth, Turner and Canaletto. There are also plenty of modern delights for visitors of all ages - Harry Potter fans should join the famous boy wizard tour that passes many of the film's various locations throughout London, including King's Cross Station, 12 Grimmauld Place and the Leaky Cauldron. Ever heard of boutique bowling? After visiting the All Star Lanes in Holborn, you'll understand the meaning! Classed as an 'ultimate escape', this American-styled bowling venue is a great place to meet, eat, drink and bowl in style. Or head to Bounce, a cocktail bar and pizza restaurant with 17 ping pong tables to keep you occupied!
Holborn is well-placed for a retail fix! Jewellery shoppers will love to browse Hatton Garden’s diamond boutiques – while there, head to Leather Lane Market, a foodie’s paradise. A 15-minute walk will get you to the delights of Neal’s Yard in nearby Covent Garden; this colourful courtyard is not only incredibly pretty on camera, but it is jam-packed with shops to explore. High Holborn, formed off the extension off Oxford Street, offers a wide selection of both retail stores and popular restaurant chains. If you are willing to venture further down the road, you'll finally arrive at the UK's most popular shopping destination, Oxford Street, from the Tottenham Court Rd end. There are also some amazing (and unusual) independent shops in the area. Timorous Beasties designs incredible prints for everything from tea towels to lampshades, rugs and furniture; Jarndyce Booksellers is the antique bookshop of your dreams, housed in an 18th-century building opposite the British Museum; and on Lamb’s Conduit Street, Folk offers well-made casual clothing in lush, exclusive fabrics.
On Red Lion Street you’ll find Kozzy Café, perfect for a beverage, breakfast or brunch. For the best cup of English tea, visit the Twining's flagship shop at the Strand, the oldest tea shop in London! You may like to visit popular Ciao Bella for a classic Italian lunch or dinner in an airy basement, with framed photos and hanging instruments. Bleeding Heart Yard, a 12-minute walk from our apartments, is a cobbled courtyard where you’ll find a vibrant French bistro and terrace, as well as an extensive wine bar on the ground floor of the historic Bleeding Heart Tavern. With medieval roots, Holborn is peppered with historic pubs. 11 minutes’ walk from our apartments is Ye Olde Mitre, tucked away in a small alley. Build in the 1540s, the pub is famous for having a cherry tree that Queen Elizabeth once danced around with Sir Christopher Hatton. Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese on Fleet Street is one of London’s most famous chophouses. Located in the heart of the capital’s publishing district, this drinking den has played host to history’s literary darlings, including Mark Twain, W.B. Yeats and Charles Dickens, who featured it in A Tale of Two Cities!
The Garden Cinema, 10 minutes’ walk from our apartments, is an independent joint with a touch of art deco class. With comfy screening rooms, a curated selection of films and a bar, it's a great venue to enjoy your evening. If you prefer live theatre, head towards Drury Lane where you’re spoiled for choice – The Shaftesbury Theatre, the Gillian Lynne Theatre, the Novello, the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, the Lyceum…take your pick! Or catch a performance of world-class opera or ballet at the Royal Opera House. After, you could enjoy a nightcap at one of the many bars in Holborn. Visit Baranis for specialist herb-infused cocktails, absinthe and the UK’s only indoor pétanque court in this unique basement bar around the corner from the Law Society Hall. Like gin? Well you’re in luck, as The Gin Bar has over 500 to choose from, including well-known brands, small-batch suppliers and local distillers.
