Viridian Apartments in Newbury – Brewery House Serviced Apartments

Our characterful serviced apartments at Brewery House are steeped in history and ideal for extended stays and relocations.
Occupying a Grade II listed building in the centre of Newbury with a brewing history dating back two centuries, they allow guests the choice between one or two-bedroomed serviced apartments.

Set within a charming courtyard - where in the heyday of coaching some 50-60 coaches would pass through daily to consume yesteryear’s tipples - many of the building’s early 18th century fixtures and fittings still survive. You could say they look pitcher perfect. With style and charm flowing by the barrelful, the newly refurbished apartments boast plenty of character, have fully-fitted contemporary kitchens and are finished to a high spec.

The high street is just round the corner with an abundance of restaurants and shops. Newbury train station is a 10-15 minute walk away.

Things to do around Newbury – Brewery House Serviced Apartments

Introduction

Newbury is a beautiful market town in the heart of Berkshire, offering up plenty to see and do. While in the area, a visit to Newbury Racecourse, which has events year-round, is a must. In the heart of town, Corn Exchange houses a 400-seat theatre, an independent cinema, and a popular kitchen and bar in a Grade II listed 19th-century building. Or drive 15 minutes to Highclere Castle; if the opulently-furnished rooms seem familiar, it’s because you’ll have seen them in Downton Abbey! A 20-minute drive north will get you to family-friendly attraction The Living Rainforest, run by the Trust for Sustainable Living. Transported into the environment of a lush tropical rainforest, you can view more than 850  species of plants and animals housed in the centre, including rare and endangered species of global conservation value. Golf fans should head to Donnington Valley, an 18-hole course in Snelsmore Common. The surrounding country park is a delight to explore on sunny days.

Shopping

Newbury was first noted as holding a market and fair almost 1,000 years ago and that tradition is still alive today. Head to the historic Market Place for the bi-weekly charter market where you can pick up traditional produce, flowers, craft items and clothing. Once a month the farmers’ market comes to town, offering seasonal local produce. And on the final Sunday of the month, popular Newbury Artisan Market brings you 60 stalls of the very best of local. Just four minutes’ walk from Brewery House, here you’ll find art, handmade jewellery, candles and home accessories, and the freshest food. The town also offers a delightful mix of old and new shops, big brands and boutiques. Parkway Shopping and Kennet Shopping are the malls to head to for high street brands. B the Lifestyle Shop is an independent mini department store stocking sustainable homeware, fashion and gifts. Local artist Tim Furr sells prints, cards and picture books at ArtyFartyStuff while fans of preloved fashion should head to Isabel’s Retro, where Isabel herself sources a range of 1940s and 1950s style clothing.

Food & Drink

More than 60% of Newbury’s town centre hospitality venues are independently owned, making this historic market town a center of unique cuisine to tantalise the tastebuds. For a pit-stop coffee or leisurely breakfast in the centre of town, head to Tiny Café or Weavers Coffee Shop, a family-run Newbury staple for over 30 years. Teashop by the Canal is a lovely spot on a sunny day, where you can enjoy a cream tea in a gorgeous Grade II listed building on the Kennet and Avon waterway. When it comes to dinner options, you’ll be spoiled for choice! Since 1987, family-run Valle D’Oro has served a variety of homemade Italian cuisine, while Goat on the Roof offers up a small but delightful menu of British sharing plates, using the very best in organic and seasonal produce from local suppliers. Make sure to pair your tapas with one of the 70 specially-selected natural and sustainable wines on offer!

Night Life

The Cross Keys is a quirky and popular pub just two minutes’ walk from our serviced apartments. With a steam punk inspired bar area, open fires, and an amazing array of Cuban-inspired dishes and drinks, you’re sure to have a good night. The Elephant at the Market offers classic cocktails alongside boutique spirits and world beers on tap.

Right in the heart of the Newbury, home to Downton Abbey, our Francis Druett House serviced apartments enable you to embrace this thriving commercial hub set against the beautiful backdrop of Berkshire countryside. Our stylish serviced apartments, named after a local legend, benefit from easy access to local amenities and fast transport links to London.
